(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On approximately 08-Jun-2025, a 11 year old, a 16.3 kg, neutered, female, Treeing Tennessee Brindle dog, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 application of Parapet K9 Praventa 360 for Large Dogs 11-25kg, 6 Tubes (Imidacloprid, Permethrin, Pyriproxyfen) via the topical route by the animal owner. This was an extra-label use due to administration to an aged dog without first consulting the veterinarian. On approximately 11-Jun-2025, the dog began vomiting bile. On approximately 14-Jun-2025, the vomiting bile resolved. On approximately 22-Jun-2025, the dog developed a decreased appetite. On approximately 08-Jul-2025, the dog was bathed with mild liquid dish soap via the topical route by the animal owner, as instructed by the veterinarian. Following bathing, the dog's decreased appetite was less severe, but ongoing. On approximately 10-Jul-2025, the dog developed lethargy, decreased bowel movements, weight loss, and anorexia. On 13-Jul-2025, the dog was evaluated by an emergency veterinarian. A blood cell count revealed the dog to have a critically decreased red blood cell count (anemia). No specific treatments were provided, and the dog was discharged into the animal owner's care. On 14-Jul-2025, the anorexia continued and the animal owner was providing care only end of life care at home (details were not provided). Toxicological consultation with the treating veterinarian and symptomatic and supportive care were recommended. No further information has been received in this case.
Assessment: This product has a wide margin of safety in dogs following topical application. The active ingredients are poorly absorbed across intact skin, thus systemic toxicity is not expected. Mild, self-limiting GI upset is possible if the product is ingested from the application site while still wet, but the persistent signs noted in this case are inconsistent. Severe anemia is also not anticipated. Other causes including underlying flea-bite anemia, GI disease, cancer, and tick-borne diseases should also be considered. Without further diagnostics, the cause of the dog's signs is unknown and the relationship between product use and outcome is inconclusive. The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and cannot form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews.
