A quality issue was detected when one of the retail distribution centers reported finding wet cases in the warehouse. A subsequent investigation determined that two Canadian products were affected, with aerosol cans showing seam corrosion and leaking. These products are the RAIDA(r) Outdoor Ant Nest Destroyer 2 and RAIDA(r) Max Wasp Hornet Foam Bug Killer 2. A hold was placed on the inventory within S.C. Johnson controlled facilities to prevent further shipment or distribution. S.C. Johnson determined micro leaks were developing along the seam welds in sample products. The failure of the seam weld coating would allow exposure of the water in the formula to contact the can wall and create corrosion. The two affected products have identical formula and packaging; only the labels differ. There have been no reports of exposure or injury to date.
The products were filled at a third-party manufacturing site operated by [Company], which is no longer being used by S.C. Johnson to manufacture its products. Historical records show no prior quality issue of this nature. These products and packaging have been in the Canadian market since 2015, with no changes to the specifications for either. Contacts from consumers indicated some complaints concerning leaks, but only as typical for an aerosol can; none mentioned seam corrosion and there has been no increase or spike in complaints relating to these products. In addition to holding the two products as S.C. Johnson continues with its root cause investigation, S.C. Johnson is in the process of conducting a voluntary recall of these two products.
