7/29/2024 All of the following information was spontaneously reported by the caller. Consumer reporting an ocular exposure to the product and he is experiencing eye pain. A small drop of the product went into one of his eyes an unspecified amount of time earlier today. He initially called a public poison control right away who advised he rinse his eyes and then follow up in the emergency room. He is in the car making the 2-3 hours drive to an emergency room, but decided to call in the meantime to see if there is anything else we recommend on the drive there. He denies any blurred vision or changes in vision, but his eye has a burning sensation. Consumer states call could cut out in 5 minutes or less as he is in the mountains. Someone else is driving him to the emergency room. Call suddenly disconnected. Called back consumer. Consumer states he does have water bottles in the car that he has been rinsing his eye with. 7/29/2024 Registered nurse calling from the emergency room for treatment recommendations regarding patient's eye exposure to Decis and patient is experiencing eye pain and redness. Consumer was not wearing eye protection at the time of exposure. Consumer and caller are unsure which of the 2 DECIS formulations it could have been. Caller states the consumer informed her that the product label stated corrosive and eye damage warnings on it. Exposure occurred approximately 3 hours ago and patient has been in the emergency room for approximately 49 minutes. Only treatments performed in emergency room so far is additional irrigation. Patient reports his pain at 6/10. Caller adds patient eye is very red, sore, and irritated, and seems to be a true 6/10. All patient vitals are great. 7/30/2024 Attempted callback. No answer. Left message with reason for call, and case and callback numbers.
Modérée
Company correlation score: 5 (probable relationship). A temporal relationship exists between the ocular exposure to the product and onset of symptoms. Despite not knowing the specific product. Decis insecticides may be corrosive to the eyes and the symptoms align with an ocular exposure to a severe eye irritant/corrosive.
