Approximately 8 hours post administration, the canine was lethargic, unable to walk, exhibited involuntary urination/defecation, and died. It is unknown if the canine was examined or treated by a veterinarian or if a necropsy was performed. No further information expected. Case closed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable Reported neurological sign of being unable to walk is not typically seen with appropriate topical product administration. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. Even with oral product exposure, which was not reported only transient gastrointestinal signs are expected. Time to onset is rather indicative of a mere behavioural reaction to the collar than a true neurological condition. Further lethargy, inappropriate defecation and inappropriate urination are unspecific signs and likely associated with neurological signs. Finally, death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious sign either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious sign. It is unknown if the canine was examined or treated by a veterinarian. Time to onset is short. Considering limited information about (animal details, medical history and necropsy report), a product relation is unassessable.
