On an unspecified date post application, in 2016, the dog was examined by a veterinarian and was diagnosed with chronic dehydration and was administered fluids daily. On an unspecified date in approximately 2017, approximately 5 months post onset of the clinical sign, the dog exhibited anorexia, adipsia, had blood clot and died. The dog was examined by a veterinarian, no treatments were performed and no necropsy was performed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable Diagnosed chronic dehydration is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Time to onset is unknown. Later reported anorexia and adipsia are an unspecific signs and may have numerous other causes. Time to onset is long. Blood clot and serious outcome death is also not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. Time to onset is long. Other causes should be considered in this geriatric animal (14 years). Moreover, the intent of the call was to inquire about product use in general and not to report this event. Overall, considering all aspect, product relation to the case is unassessable.
