On an unspecified date in 2014, an approximately 7 year old, neutered, female, Retriever Labrador (No Description) canine, of unknown weight, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, had 1 Seresto Large Dog (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner. The dog continued to have the collar replaced every 8 months. On an unspecified date in 2016, the dog had 1 new Seresto Large Dog (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner.

On an unspecified date post application, in 2014, the dog was examined by a veterinarian and was diagnosed with an unspecified pituitary disorder. It was unknown if treatments were performed. On an unspecified date post application, in 2016, the dog had an brain aneurysm (brain disorder nos) and died. The dog was examined by a veterinarian, however, no treatments were performed and no necropsy was performed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable The reported serious signs brain aneurysm and unspecified pituitary disorder are not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause such signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10-week old kittens and 7- week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. Furthermore, death likely associated with underlying medical conditions. Moreover, the intent of the call was to inquire about product use in general and not to report this event. Considering low level of information (e.g. heath status of animal, medical history, time to onset and necropsy details are unknown), a relation to this case is unassessable.
