On 24-Jun-2020, a 0.33 year old, intact, female, Domestic Longhair cat, of unknown weight, in unknown condition, with concomitant medical conditions of fleas, was administered an unknown amount of Hartz UltraGuard Flea and Tick Powder for Cats (Tetrachlorvinphos) via the topical route by the animal owner. Soon after administration, the cat took a nap. The cat woke up 4 hours later, walked a few feet, then collapsed. The cat's eyes and throat appeared to be swollen shut. The animal owner attempted to feed the cat milk and sugar water and during feeding, the cat vomited blood and died shortly after. The cat was not evaluated by a veterinarian and no treatments were performed. No necropsy was performed and the cat was buried. This was the first time use of the product and it was administered as directed, per product label.
