(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On 10-Jun-2020, a 1 year old, 6 pound, intact, female, Domestic Shorthair cat, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical condition, was administered 1 collar of Hartz UltraGuard Pro Flea and Tick Collar for Cats (Tetrachlorvinphos (Rabon) / S Methoprene) via the topical route by the animal owner. Approximately 1 minute post product application, the cat went limp (muscle weakness). The owner thought may have been due to the cat not having worn a collar before. The collar was removed 15 minutes post application. In the morning of 11-Jun-2020, the cat was moving around but exhibited lethargy. A few hours later, the cat collapsed. The cat was immediately brought to a veterinary facility and developed a seizure on the way. Upon arrival to the veterinary facility, the cat was hospitalized. On 12-Jun-2020, the cat appeared to be improving. On 13-Jun-2020, the cat developed unregulated body temperature and blood sugar level (values not provided). The cat developed another seizure that could not be controlled and the cat died at the veterinary facility. The specific treatments provided are unknown. It is unknown if a necropsy was pursued. The cat was current on vaccines (unspecified) prior to product administration. The animal owner also applied the same collar to her other cat at the same time and that cat remained asymptomatic. No further information was received in this case.

Assessment: The collar and its ingredients are considered to have a good margin of safety in cats. Collapse and seizures persisting until death are not expected. The signs worsened in this case after the collar was removed from the cat, after only 15 minutes of use, which is suggestive of other causes. Other considerations for a cause of death include underlying cardiac disease, neurological disease, toxin exposure (bromethalin rodenticide, medications, etc.), unknown trauma, and infectious disease. Without a necropsy the cause of death is unknown. The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and cannot form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews.
