On approximately 16-Mar-2020, the dog exhibited diarrhea. The animal owner began administering an unspecified dose of busmuth subsalicylate via the oral route. On approximately 26-Mar-2020, the dog exhibited dyspnea. On 27-Mar-2020, the dog was evaluated by the veterinarian who administered multiple unspecified injections via an unknown route. The dog died. No necropsy was performed. No further information is expected. This case is closed.

O - Unclassifiable/unassessable Reported diarrhoea is an unspecific sign and may have numerous other causes (e.g. gastrointestinal infection, dietary incompatibility). Though mild gastrointestinal signs may occur shortly after product application, they are not expected to appear with long time to onset. No oral product exposure reported. Further, dysponea and death are not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with product's pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. This is supported by the extremely low systemic exposure with imidacloprid and flumethrin, particularly during the first week after application and also thereafter. In this case, the role of other concomitantly administered unspecified injections should also be considered. Moreover, the intent of the call was to inquire about product use in general and not to report this event. Time to onset is long. Other causes must be considered. In the end, considering limited information (necropsy report, health status and age of the animal), a product involvement is unassessable.
