On approximately 23-Aug-2017, a 14 pound, neutered, male, feline, of unknown age, breed and condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, who had previously been a feral outdoor cat, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II Large Cat (Imidacloprid-Pyriproxyfen) topically by the owner.

On approximately 05-Sep-2017, the cat exhibited an elevated body temperature and lethargy. The cat was examined by a veterinarian who performed unspecified blood work, the results of which were within normal limits and the veterinarian administered unspecified fluids intravenously. On approximately 06-Sep-2017, the cat died. No known necropsy was performed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial phone call was to discuss the product use on another animal and not to report the death in this event. No further information is expected; the case is closed.

N-Unlikely: Elevated body temperature is neither expected nor inline with products pharmaco-toxicological profile. Lethargy is an unspecific sign and may have various other causes. Death is inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat is 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. Moreover, the reason for the initial phone call was to discuss the product use on another animal and not to report the death in this event. Other causes are more likely. Considering long time to onset and known product safety profile, product relation is unlikely.
