(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On July 29, 2015 the cat became lethargic. On August 5, 2015 the cat became anorexic and had weight loss. On August 15, 2015 the cat collapsed (fell off the table and wouldn't move), so the owner took the cat to the veterinarian (diagnosed with organ failure secondary to the fleas) where the cat was euthanized. The APSS veterinarian stated S-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR).and if ingested there could be hypersalivation and nausea. The APSS veterinarian further stated organ damage is not expected and it is suspected that the cat had underlying health problems with his age. The APSS veterinarian finally stated anemia from the flea infestation could have contributed to his illness, but his death is not from the product itself.
Modérée
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation.

(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
Between July 16 and 20, 2015 the dog developed pruritus and alopecia, so the owner gave the dog diphenhydramine. The pruritus ended on July 22, 2015 and alopecia ended between July 20 and 24, 2015, so the dog made a full recovery. On August 17, 2015 the owner called the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated permethrins and pyrethroids can cause a tingling sensation to the skin, as well as redness, dermal irritation, and pruritus. The APSS veterinarian also stated occasionally animals will develop sores or scabs, and alopecia secondary to scratching or biting the application site. The APSS veterinarian further stated some animals are more sensitive to the ingredients than others, and may experience rolling, hiding, vocalization, clingy behavior, lethargy, panting, reluctance to move, or have an abnormal gait (ex. take a few steps, stop, sit down and turn quickly toward their tail), and signs often resolve after bathing and with topical applications of vitamin E and cool compresses, but may take up to 24-72 hours. The APSS veterinarian stated furthermore s-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) and primary concerns from topical administration are for mild dermal irritation and redness, usually from the carriers.
Mineure
Signs were expected to be mild and self-limiting.
