Suspected drift and overland movement of M1691 (dicamba) herbicide was reported to Monsanto Canada by a commercial farmer growing approximately 50 acres of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans (tolerant to glyphosate only). The product was applied using a ground application method. The commercially grown soybeans that were affected were adjacent (within 20 ft) to a field where M1691 Herbicide was being applied on Dicamba tolerant soybeans. Contributing factors in the drift of the M1691 herbicide to an adjacent field containing non tolerant soybeans includes; the applicator did not select a nozzel type that was recommended on the label (droplets produced were smaller than the recommended minimum as per the label directions). Furthermore, the application of M1691 Herbicide occurred just prior to a significant rainfall event (2 in) that moved across the area within less than 12 hours. The soil in the field was already saturated, increasing the opportunity for runoff from the target field to the adjacent field. Monsanto is working with both parties to resolve the issue and ensure all label recommendations are adhered to prior to the application of the product.
