1-40512355 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to a spot-on insecticide containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter applied the spot-on product to her 2-year-old, 7 pound, male cat one day prior to initial contact with the registrant and the following day, when the reporter returned home, she found multiple episodes of vomit and one diarrhea episode in her home. The cat was found hiding in the closet, he seemed weak and disorientated, he walked like he was drunk and he meowed loudly. The reporter brought the cat to the emergency clinic that night where it was treated with an injectable anti-emetic, given fluids and the application site was shaved and washed. The cat was released that same night. The following day the reporter noted that the cat was clingy, tired and was not eating but he seemed more playful that evening and two days later he was eating canned food and doing a little better but still lethargic. The reporter was advised that the product has little to no toxicity in mammals but if ingested transient gastrointestinal upset is possible. The reporter was further advised that there are numerous possible causes for vomiting and diarrhea and it may be that something else affected the cat¿¿¿¿¿¿s health. No further information is available.
