1-38443554 - The reporter, the friend of a pet owner, indicated that a cat was exposed to an insecticidal shampoo containing the active ingredients pyrethrins, n-octyl bicycloheptene dicarboximide and piperonyl butoxide. The reporter indicated that a 4-year-old, male, 10 pound Persian cat was shampooed with the product three days prior to initial contact with the registrant. The reporter initially stated that the within minutes of getting a bath the cat urinated on himself and then passed away. Later, during the call, the reporter indicated that the cat passed away one day after the bath and it may have urinated on himself after it had already passed away. Finally, the reporter stated that both she and the pet owner were out of town during the incident and a caretaker was in the home caring for the cat. Therefore, neither the reporter nor the pet owner witnessed the exposure nor did they see the symptoms prior to death. The reporter indicated that prior to the incident the cat was thought to be healthy and per the reporter, the animal was a well-cared for show cat. The reporter was advised that the product contains a low concentration of active ingredients and sudden death from normal use of the product is not expected. No further information is available.
