1-36045950 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that his two cats were exposed to a dog spot-on insecticide containing the active ingredient permethrin. One day prior to initial contact with the registrant the reporters wife applied half of the contents of one applicator to their 7-year-old, 11 pound, male domestic longhaired cat (Subform III #1) and the other half of the applicator contents was applied to their 9-year-old, 11 pound, male domestic longhaired cat (Subform III #2). At the time of the initial call both cats were asymptomatic. The reporter was advised that per package labeling this product is not meant to be used on cats. Bathing with a non-insecticidal shampoo was recommended. Veterinary care was recommended for any neurologic symptoms. On follow-up call, three days later, the reporter indicated that his 11-year-old cat had become ataxic and started acting strangely and his 7-year-old cat had started twitching and hiding. The reporter brought both of his cats to the veterinarian where they were treated with muscle relaxants, antihistamines and a steroid shot. At the time of the follow-up call both cats were back to normal. No further information is available.
