On August 25, 2013 the owner noticed that the cat was drooling. On August 27, 2013 the owner bathed the cat. On August 28, 2013 the owner noticed that the cat was no longer drooling. Later that evening the owner bathed the cat. On August 29, 2013 the owner noticed that the cat was weak and took the cat to the veterinarian; the owner's regular veterinarian took radiographs and performed a thoracentesis, which revealed that the cat was retaining fluid in the lungs. On an unknown date the owner noticed that the cat was experiencing abdominal breathing and was listless. On September 5, 2013 the owner took the cat back to the regular veterinarian, where the cat was euthanized. On September 9, 2013 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the main concern was for gastrointestinal (GI) upset and a taste reaction, and that over-spraying or heavy spraying of the product could cause central nervous system (CNS) signs. The APSS veterinarian also stated that fluid in the lungs would not be expected. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner call back with questions. A necropsy was not available because the cat's body was no longer available.
