On August 24, 2013, just a couple of minutes after the product had been applied, the owner noticed that the dog was drooling. The owner was on the way to the veterinarian when the dog died later that morning. The owner's friend then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help; she was not able to say whether the dog developed any other signs prior to death. The APSS veterinarian stated that a taste reaction (drooling) could be seen with an oral exposure to the product and that gastrointestinal (GI) upset could occur as well. The APSS veterinarian said that allergic reactions to the product are rare and death would not be expected to occur. The APSS veterinarian referred the owner to the Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) to discuss the case in more detail. A necropsy was not available.
