1-35066389 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to an insecticidal dog shampoo containing the active ingredient phenothrin. The reporter indicated that her sister bathed her 9 year old, 8 pound, male Siamese cat with the shampoo 30 minutes prior to initial contact with the registrant and at the time of the initial call the reporters cat was asymptomatic. The reporter was advised that the product is not meant to be used on cats and bathing with a non-insecticidal shampoo was recommended. On follow-up, seven days later, the reporter indicated that four days after her initial call the cat died suddenly and no symptoms were seen prior to its death. The reporter was advised that the low concentration of AI in the product would not be expected to cause death especially sudden death four days after the product had been used. A necropsy could help determine a cause for the cats death but the reporter indicated that the body had already been buried. No further information is available.
