There were a total of 28 colonies in the bee yard. There were 28 affected colonies. There were 0 dead colonies. The average number of dead bees per colony is unknown. Dead adult bees were observed outside the hive. Slow foraging, hives weak, field force low, brood patterns look good, but will soon fail. Adult bee symptoms included shaking/trembling/twitching, crawling and disoriented. No brood symptoms. Additionally, the brood is good now, but will it soon fail? Too early to tell. No queen symptoms observed. The queen was ok now.Samples of vegetation taken from soybeans from field E of yard had no detected active ingredients. Samples of vegetation taken from Solidayo canadensis (golden rod) from edge of soybean field had no detected active ingredients. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive, hive #1, had positive detects for clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Samples of pollen taken from affected hive, pollen comb from hive #2, had no detected active ingredients. Samples of pollen taken from unaffected hive, pollen comb from hive #3 less affected, had no detected active ingredients. Samples of live bees taken from less affected hive, hive #5, had no detected active ingredients. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive, hive #2 from herb farm yard, had positive detects for clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Samples of vegetation, wild carrots from edge of soybean field, had no detected active ingredients. Samples of vegetation, corn tassels from field planted ~100m NW of bee yard, had no detected active ingredients. The weather at the time of the incident was sunny, dry, not windy, 28C, normal humidity. Prior to the incident, there were an average of 10 light frames of bees although it should have been 20 light frames of bees, 4 - 8 frames of brood, and alarming low pollen, 1/2 frame, low honey, no pollen coming in. Additional food sources provided to the bees included sugar syrup. In 2012, the following treatments were applied to the hives: formic acid, amitraz. In 2013, the following treatments were applied to the hives: formic acid. Information on crops located near the beeyards: 50 ac of soybeans located near the affected bee hives. Also, bush, corn, pasture and hay were located near the affected bee yard. Beekeeper reporting large kill at one Yard with twitching dying bees. Other yards also have dead bees but one yard is experiencing fresh kill.
