On October 1, 2012 the owner noticed that the dog was having mild seizures. On December 17, 2012 the owner took the dog to the veterinarian and the dog was prescribed Keppra to be given three times a day; the owner thought that the Keppra was keeping the dog's seizures under control. On December 20, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the history and signs do not fit for an expected accidental, off-label exposure under these conditions. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner have the veterinarian call for information, consult with her regular veterinarian regarding prednisone treatment, and call back with questions.
