1-32456867 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cats were exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter indicated that she applied the product to her 3-year-old, male, 8 pound domestic short hair cat (Subform III #1) and to her 9-year-old, female, 12 pound domestic short hair cat (Subform III #2) nine days prior to initial contact with the registrant. The reporter indicates that within a week after product application her male cat was scratching, had red skin at the application site, was bleeding from about half-dollar sized area near the application site and was lethargic. The reporter states that her female cat had red and sensitive skin at the application site, welts on various parts of her body and sensitive skin. The reporter was advised that the active ingredient in the product is an insect growth regulator that his little to no toxicity in mammals. Skin irritation is unexpected with product exposure and may be a result of bites from adult fleas. Caller was advised to bath her cats and to seek veterinary care for any ongoing symptoms.
