On September 5, 2012 the owner took the dog to a different veterinarian, where the dog was given fluid therapy and a chemistry profile and complete blood count (CBC) were done. On September 6, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that central nervous system (CNS) signs would not be expected and that given the presence of a fever, infection, encephalitis, or some other cause for the dog's signs should be considered.
