On August 23, 2012, immediately after the owner applied the product to the cat, the owner noticed that the cat was panting. The owner stated that the panting ended on an unknown date. On an unknown date after the owner applied the product to the cat, the owner noticed that the cat had welts where the product had been distributed. On August 25, 2012 the owner observed that the cat was agitated. On August 27, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had alopecia. A short time later that day, the owner bathed the cat with human soap. On September 2, 2012 the owner observed that the cat was inappetent and polydipsic. On September 5, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the ingredient in the product has a wide margin of safety in cats and that significant systemic effects would not be expected. The APSS veterinarian also stated that dermal reactions and/or dermal paresthesia reactions could be seen in sensitive individuals and that signs related to those types of reactions are expected to occur shortly after the exposure. The caller was disconnected before treatment recommendations could be given.

On September 10, 2012 an APSS assistant called the owner to update the case. The owner stated that the cat had fully recovered on September 8, 2012.
