On November 19, 2011, some time after the owner applied the product to the cat for the first time, the owner noticed that the cat had an isolated episode of drooling and had become lethargic. The cat was no longer lethargic on November 22, 2011. On December 19, 2011 the owner applied another dose of the product to the cat, and soon after she noticed that the cat was drooling, agitated, and hyperactive. A short time after noticing the cat's signs, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that the risk was for dermal hypersensitivity and that there was also a risk for gastrointestinal (GI) upset. The owner stated that during the call she noticed that the cat was no longer agitated or hyperactive, but was still drooling. The APSS technician recommended that the owner monitor the cat at home, provide a taste treat, bathe the cat with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD), consult with a veterinarian, and call back with questions.
