On January 10, 2012, shortly after the owner applied the product to the kitten, the owner noticed that she was drooling. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. Shortly after calling the APSS, the owner stated that she had also observed that her kitten was shaking her head occasionally. The APSS veterinarian stated that methoprene exposure can lead to taste reactions such as drooling and vomiting. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner give the kitten a taste treat of milk, canned food, or tuna to remove the flavor of the product; decontaminate the environment by vacuuming areas where the kitten sleeps and washing all of the bedding weekly; and call back with questions.
