On September 3, 2012 the owner observed that the cat had died. On September 5, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that exposure to a small amount of the product, such as through minimal contact with treated surfaces, would not be expected to cause significant clinical signs and that limited oral exposure could cause mild and self-limiting gastrointestinal (GI) upset. The APSS veterinarian also stated that even an inappropriate application of the product to a cat should not cause central nervous system (CNS) signs or death, given the low concentration of permethrin in the product. A necropsy was not available because the cat had already been cremated.
Mort
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation.

On September 1, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was having muscle tremors. On September 5, 2012 the owner observed that the cat had died. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the cat have a necropsy and stated that if the owner wanted to have a necropsy done she should take the cat's body to the veterinarian and have the veterinarian call for information about the necropsy.
Mort
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was not considered to be related to causing the clinical situation. On September 6, 2012 an APSS technician called the owner and left a voicemail message asking for an update as to whether she was interested in pursuing a necropsy.
