(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On June 24, 2012 the owner noticed that the kitten was mildly ataxic. About half an hour later, the owner observed that the kitten's ataxia had worsened. At an unknown time that morning, the owner called an emergency veterinarian and left a message to call back. A short time later that morning, the owner observed that the kitten had died and discussed the case with the emergency veterinarian. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian recommended a necropsy, but the owner was uncertain. The APSS veterinarian then recommended that the owner call back if the owner decided to pursue a necropsy and that the owner keep the kitten's body in the refrigerator. The APSS veterinarian also provided information to the owner regarding controlling sand fleas by considering treating the outside environment with diatomaceous earth (DE) where the children play and by using boric acid in the home, vacuuming it up after brushing it into the carpet; however, these methods would not be as effective as an insecticide.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation and that anemia was considered to have a high likelihood of causing the clinical situation. On June 25, 2012 an APSS technician called the owner to discuss a necropsy. The owner stated that the kitten had been buried and that she did not wish to pursue a necropsy.
