On 17 Nov 2011, a technician at a vet clinic reported that her husband and brother in law have 145 calves that they have been treating for sickness including fevers of 104 to 107 for over a week with Resflor Gold and Banamine with little response. She reported that they have had 8 calves die from this group. A company veterinarian had attempted to contact the clinic three times leaving messages with no success on 18 Nov 2011, 21 Nov 2011 and 22 Nov 2011. Exact treatment dates and protocols are unknown at this time. Possible follow up pending. Follow up On 30 Nov 2011, the producer reported that the 145 calves were bought at 3 sales barns between 25 Oct 2011 and 27 Oct 2011. On 28 Oct 2011, the calves were processed with Vision 7, Bovishield Gold 5, Pulmo-Guard PHM, Synathic, Saber and Excede. On 1 Nov 2011, the first sick calf was treated with Resflor Gold and between 5 Nov 2011 and 7 Nov 2011, 18 more calves were treated. On 8 Nov 2011, one calf was dead and they mass treated the rest of the calves with Baytril and Banamine, seeing no response from the Baytril. On 10 Nov 2011, they mass treated 104 head with Draxxin and sorted out 37 head of healthy calves and put them in a different pen. They also revaccinated the calves with BoviShield Gold 5. On 11 Nov 2011, 2 more calves died and were necropsied. The attending vet grossly called it Bovine Respiratory Disease. No samples were submitted for diagnostic work. On 13 Nov 2011, 4 head were dead and another vet necropsied 2 of the 4 calves. They treated more cattle: 33 received Resflor Gold, Recovr, and Dexamethasone. 11 head received Penicilin, Recovr and Dexamethasone and 12 head received Sustain boluses. Between 14 Nov 2011 and 30 Nov 2011, 14 more calves died. No further follow up expected.
