On February 15, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was recumbent, vocalizing, and paretic. Later that evening, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS technician stated that the time frame and signs were not consistent with the use of the product on the cat. The APSS technician recommended that the owner take the cat to the veterinarian and have the veterinarian call for information.

The APSS technician stated that the substance was not related to the clinical situation. On February 27, 2012 an APSS assistant called the owner to update the case. The owner stated that the cat died on February 21, 2012. The owner also stated that he monitored the cat at home on an unknown date, and he never took the cat to the veterinarian. A necropsy was not available because the pet had already been buried.
