On March 26, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was hyperactive and vocalizing. The owner immediately tried to brush the cat's coat with a wet brush. On March 27, 2012 the owner found the cat lying under a bush outside. The owner stated that she was recumbent and drooling. A short time later that morning, the owner observed that the cat died. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that cats are very sensitive to permethrin and that adverse signs expected are tremors, ataxia, depression, vomiting, seizures, and death. The APSS technician was unable to provide treatment recommendations because the owner wanted someone to call him back later that day; he then ended the call.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a high likelihood of causing the clinical situation. Later in the afternoon on March 27, 2012 the owner called the APSS to update the case. The owner told the APSS veterinarian that when he found the cat outside earlier that morning, she was in a coma and died a short time after that. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner call back with questions. Label states in bold, large, red letters not to apply this dog product on cats.
