1-29720648- The reporter, a pet owner, indicated her animals were exposed to an insecticide containing the active ingredients tetrachlorvinphos and methoprene. The pet owner indicated she had applied the product to five cats four days prior to her initial contact. The pet owner reported she had applied the product to an eight year eight pound female domestic shorthair cat (Subform III, #3) and noted balance problems and a slowing heart rate the same day. She washed the animal with a hand dishwashing liquid but the animal died later the same day. The pet was not taken to the veterinarian. She noted her six year male twenty pound domestic shorthair cat (Subform III, #2)demonstrated lethargy the day after application. She similarly bathed that animal. It died two days after application. It was not taken to the veterinarian. The pet owner indicated the three remaining animals had been bathed but not taken to the veterinarian. Her seven year female ten pound domestic shorthair cat (Subform III, #1) was demonstrating lethargy and weakness. Her four year female twelve pound female domestic shorthair cat (Subform III, #4) was refusing food and vocalizing. Her sixteen year female eight pound Maine coon cat (Subform III, #5) was breathing heavy and twitching. The pet owner was advised to seek immediate veterinary care for the ill animals. Use per the label would not be anticipated to yield the signs or outcome seen. On follow up one day later the pet owner indicated the seven year old animal had died at the veterinary office. On follow up three days later the pet owner indicated the four year animal had died at the veterinary office. No further follow up was obtained from the reporter. No further information is available.
