1-27654442- The reporter, a pet owner indicated her animals had been exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The pet owner applied the product t her two cats two months prior to her initial contact with the registrant. The pet owner reported the same night her ten year female nine pound cat (Subform III, #1) developed panting, anorexia, salivation. Within twenty four hours of application the animal demonstrated urinary incontinence and blood in its urine. The animal died six days later at home. It was not brought to the veterinarian and did not have a necropsy. The pet owner reports her three year female ten pound cat (Subform III, #2) refused to eat following the death of its house mate. Two months late the pet owner brought the animal to the veterinarian where jaundice was noted and the pet owner was advised the animal was in liver failure. The animal was euthanized. The signs of the former animal are inconsistent with the toxicity profile of the active ingredient or the finished product. The history latter animal is consistent with hepatic lipidosis a very common syndrome seen in feline patients subject to prolonged anorexia. The signs seen in this animal are as well inconsistent with the expectations of labeled use of the product. No further information is available.
