(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On September 27, 2011, immediately after the product was used on the cat, the cat had a seizure and died suddenly. Later that morning, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that products labeled for cats generally have low concentrations of pyrethroids. The APSS veterinarian also stated that if the product is groomed, a taste reaction characterized by hypersalivation and nausea could be seen, and that especially with pyrethroid sprays, paw shaking and ear flicking could be seen. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner take the cat to the veterinarian to discuss a necropsy, have the veterinarian call for information, and call back with questions.
Mort
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation. Later on September 27, 2011 the owner's regular veterinarian contacted the APSS to update the case and discuss the process for submitting the cat's body for necropsy. The APSS veterinarian recommended hair testing as well. On September 30, 2011 an APSS technician contacted the diagnostic lab to confirm that the necropsy had been submitted and that a hair testing sample would be sent in as well. Later that day, the diagnostic lab called the APSS technician to state that fur was not available and the cat had been cremated, so hair testing would not be possible. The diagnostic lab staff also stated that the cat had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and the APSS veterinarian stated this condition was considered to have a high likelihood of causing the clinical situation. Necropsy results are pending.
