1-27226861- The reporter, a pet owner, indicated her animal was exposed to an insecticide containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter indicated she had applied the product to her five month eight pound male cat the night prior to her initial contact with the registrant. The pet owner was advised of registrant supported necropsy. The pet owner had had erroneously advised her veterinarian to perform a necropsy. The veterinarian performed a gross necropsy on site at her veterinary clinic and advised the registrant of inconclusive findings other than generalized pallor. The veterinarian stated she suspected flea bite anemia and secondarily implicated the product. The veterinarian was advised the active ingredient would not be expected to elicit death even if directly ingested by the animal. The intention was that the animal would have a necropsy with a board certified veterinary pathologist and the University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory where a full gross and microscopic necropsy could be performed along with toxicology submission as necessary. Minimal information can be obtained from a necropsy of the nature described. The veterinarian indicated she would preserve and submit all remaining tissues. No further information is available.
