1-26986908- The reporter, a veterinarian, indicated patients of hers may have been exposed to a pesticide containing the active ingredient zinc phosphide. The reporter indicated she was on the scene at the time of her initial contact where it was suspected cattle had ingested the product. No observed ingestion was indicated and it was unknown when the exposure had taken place. The reporter did not state whether the product had been applied or if the animals had access to the stock of the product. She indicated four animals (Subform III, #1) were dead when she arrived on the scene and two (Subform III, #2) were lethargic and had distended abdomens. The veterinarian was advised of the mechanism of action and current standards of veterinary care following accidental animal ingestions of the active ingredient. The veterinarian did not respond to follow up attempts. No further information is available.
