Patient Care Planned/Recommended Care Necropsy Purpose: Diagnostic Who: Not asked ; Willingness: Not asked Refused Details: Declined by owner. Vet looked at her externally after she died, but nothing internally. Unplanned Care Call Veterinarian Details:The kitten died before the vet arrived. No trauma or fractures were seen. Performed Jun 13, 2011 11:00 PM Outcome Died , EPA max illness designation: D-A Request for Information The reason for the request was aspca information. This was regarding patient and agent Roundup Weed and Grass Killer Ready To Use Plus. The question: Product was placed on grass on last Friday. Owner found pet limp last night. Vet came over to help but pet was dead by 00:30 hrs this morning. How long is product toxic and how much would pet need to eat. Round up is not toxic, especially after it is dried. List of Contacts Jun 14, 2011 at 09:40 AM CDT [name] (veterinarian) interacted with [name] (owner) for reason: obtain help. [Note : Owner calling to obtain information (by [initals] on Jun 14, 2011 at 09:46 AM)] [Note : Discussed the case with the owner. The kitten was feral but living in her garage. She has 2 kittens, about 5 weeks old that also live in the garage. There is nothing in the garage or on her property that the kittens could have access to, and no poisons. The Roundup was sprayed Friday (6/10). It's possible the cat may wander off of her property. She was fine yesterday, playful, had been eating well at 10p ET, then her daughter found her limp last night around 11p ET. They called the vet, and she had died prior to the vet getting there. He suspected maybe a snake bite or a poisoning since she died so fast. There were no wounds, no signs of trauma or fractured bones, no obvious bleeding. She vomited once, but it just looked like stool. He did not perform a necropsy. She's not vaccinated. Discussed that it's definitely not from the Roundup, since it is very safe, and not a risk after it's dried. Cardiac disease is possible, or even a spider bite like a Black Widow. Internal trauma is possible, but often HBC's have road rash or some type of wounds. She buried the cat last night. (by [intials] on Jun 14, 2011 at 09:46 AM)]
