1-26517050-The reporter, a veterinarian, states an animal has presented to her following the application of an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient. The pet owner had applied the product to the nine and one half year female seven pound domestic shorthair can one day prior to the initial contact with the registrant. The pet owner had described agitation salivation hiding twitching, and panting. The pet owners had washed the animal. The veterinarian was advised the signs seen were inconsistent with the toxicity profile of the active ingredient. She was encouraged to pursue other diagnoses including asking the owner about the use of other flea and tick product in the house. On follow up the veterinarian reported the animal returned the next morning with continued signs. She also described twitching, lateral recumbency, hyperesthesia, mildly elevated HR, ataxia, and ventral flexion of the neck. The owner did not have any finances to speak of and the cat was euthanized. They took the body home for burial. There is a dog in the house which was treated with a topical insecticidal product at the same time. Feline patients are not tolerant of concentrated pyrethroids used in canine flea and tick products. The animal¿s signs are consistent with pyrethroid intoxication. No further information is available.
