1-25460378- The reporter, a pet owner, indicated her animal was exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredients phenothrin and methoprene. The four month five pound male Chihuahua dog had the product, a topical flea and tick drop, applied to it two days prior to the initial contact with the registrant. the animal developed the signs of vomiting, nausea and diarrhea within twelve hours of application. The pet owner indicates she had seen the animal grooming (licking) the product from its coat. At the point of initial contact the animal was still vomiting. The pet owner was advised the signs seen would not be expected if use according to the label instruction. The product is not meant to be ingested or applied on locations that allow ingestion. She was advised of signs that might be seen if ingested, supportive care that might be offered at home and the threshold at which she should seek veterinary care. On routine follow up the pet owner indicated the animal had refused food demonstrated lethargy and developed difficulty breathing following her initial contact. She had not brought the animal to the veterinarian and it had died two days after her initial contact. The pet owner was advised the out come seen would not be expected to be product related even following ingestion.
