1-24624557- The reporter, a pet owner, calls to indicate exposure of her animal to an insecticide containing tetrachlorvinphos. The pet owner indicated she applied the product, a topical flea and tick spray, to her eleven year eight pound female domestic shorthair cat six days prior to the initial contact with the registrant. The pet owner stated she had used the product on her animal previously with no ill effect. She reported she used the product heavily saturating the animal¿¿¿s coat. The animal was reported to have hidden for three days following application which was not abnormal behavior for the animal but when the animal was encountered by the owner it was ¿¿¿not breathing?. The cat was brought to the veterinarian where it was reported it was bathed and received unspecified treatments. The pet owner indicated the animal dies one day later. The pet owner was advised this was an unexpected response to use of the product according to label instructions. Despite deviation from the label (use on an animal older than ten years of age and saturation) death would be unexpected to be related to the product use. The pet owner was advised the animal may have had an unrelated illness and of registrant supported necropsy to determine cause of death. No further information is available.
