On August 13, 2010 the cat became symptomatic. The owner took the cat to the veterinarian, who bathed the cat, gave fluid therapy, methocarbamol, and managed the cat's seizures with valium. Later that morning, the APSS technician relayed the APSS recommendations to have the veterinarian call for information, monitor the cat's body temperature, provide thermoregulation, manage seizures with methocarbamol, and call back with questions.

Later on August 13, 2010 the attending veterinary technician called the APSS to discuss the case. The APSS veterinarian stated the cat's prognosis with appropriate symptomatic treatment is good. On August 16, 2010 an APSS assistant called the owner and then the attending veterinary clinic to follow up the case. The attending veterinary technician stated that the attending veterinarian had administered the max dose of drugs for one day to the cat, had provided thermoregulation by rotating warm towels in with the cat. The attending veterinary technician stated the cat was deceased the next morning, August 14, 2010, when the staff came in. The attending veterinarian stated she had never seen such a bad reaction to a flea/tick product, which made her believe that the cat had an underlying health concern. This product was not used according to label directions: do not use on cats.
