1-23261517- The reporter, a pet owner, calls to indicate exposure of her animal to a pesticide containing the active ingredient S-Methoprene. The caller reports she applied the product to a nursing cat five days prior to the initial contact with the registrant. The caller stated she did this under instruction from her veterinarian. The caller reports two days later she found one of the nursing kittens (Sub-form III, #1) down unable to rise. The animal was soon after found dead. The caller reports a second nursing kitten (Sub-form III, #2) is "seems ill" and not very energetic. The caller was told this was unexpected following labeled use of the product. The active ingredient in this product carries little to no toxicity for mammals. The caller was advised to seek prompt veterinary care for the remaining animal. On routine call back the pet owner indicates she brought the animal to the veterinarian and was found to have a "paralyzed foot". The pet owner was advised this product is not approved or labeled for use on pregnant or nursing animals and would not be expected to elicit the symptoms seen when used according to label instructions. No further information is available.
