(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
Product applied to pasture, It is not known when the horses then re-entered the treated pasture. 2 to 3 weanling colts (6 months) experienced seizures which spontaneously resolved. A 5 year old male horse lost control of its hind end and sypmtoms continued. He was down in sternal recumbancy but was eating and drinking. He could use his front legs but not his back legs. He was grazing on the treated pasture.

The caller is wondering if the product is the cause and what the antidote would be? A: Advised the caller it would be ideal if we could find out the exact product, and when the horses re-entered the pasture in relation to the spraying - that is, would the product have still been wet or dried? - Scanned the MSDS for several 2,4,d products; all are highly concentrated. Common notation on the MSDS = INGESTION: Harmful if swallowed. May cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased blood pressure, muscle weakness, muscle spasms. Since we have no specific product id I can only speak in general terms: - If the product was properly diluted and the pasture had dried prior to the horses using it, there is likely no risk to the horses of any exposure to the product. - If the product was properly diluted and the pasture had not dried prior to the horses using it, the horses might have gotten into enough product to cause minor sxs such as GI upset or minor versions of the ingestion sxs listed on the MSDS (nausea, abdominal pain, decreased blood pressure, muscle weakness, muscle spasms). They would need to get into a lot of product to do this, esp. the adult horse. - If the horses got into the concentrated product, they could develop the sxs listed on the MSDS ( nausea, abdominal pain, decreased blood pressure, muscle weakness, muscle spasms). - Rec. supportive and symptomatic care while r/o other causes for sxs, such as toxic plants in the pasture. It is suspected the horses ingested a toxic plant called horsetail weed or mare's tail as it was found in the pasture. The colts have remained symptom free.
