1-22458158: The reporter, an animal owner, called the registrant on 5/1/10 to report the exposure of his 1 year old male Australian Cattle Dog to an anticoagulant rodenticide containing the active ingredient Brodifacoum. According to the reporter, he thought the dog had ingested ¿ of a bar of product on 4/30. However, the reporter did indicate the dog may also have ingested some bait prior to then. The dog started coughing up blood on 5/1. During the call the reporter inquired about and was given information regarding the anticoagulant effects of the product. A recommendation was made to take the dog to a veterinarian immediately for treatment. It was discussed that treatment with vitamin K1 would be needed for 21-30 days or more. A follow-up call on 5/3 revealed that the dog had died the morning of 5/2/10. The reporter had contacted several veterinarians; he indicated that the only treatment they could offer was to euthanize the dog. The reporter did not seek veterinary attention elsewhere.
