On December 3, 2009 the owner took the pet to the veterinarian, where a complete blood count and chemistry profile were done. Based on the blood work results and physical exam the veterinarian determined the cat was hypothermic, had a decreased blood sugar and white blood cell count and was dehydrated. The cat also had indications of kidney disease, a decrease in platelets and an absent pupillary light reflex. The veterinarian gave the cat dextrose, fluid therapy, and thermoregulation. The veterinarian then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated clinical signs and types of signs were not consistent with the exposure to the product. The APSS veterinarian recommended symptomatic and supportive care, a diagnostic evaluation, monitoring the body temperature, and fluid therapy.
