1-19075661: A reporter (cat owner) called on 07/06/2009 to report the possible exposure of her 3 kittens to a flea and tick collar containing the active ingredients Tetrachlorvinphos and Methoprene. According to the reporter, the collar was placed on the mother cat (who was still nursing the kittens) on an unknown date "a few weeks" prior to the report. Approximately 1 week prior to the report (06/30/2009), Kitten #1 and Kitten #2 (1st Subform III) developed unknown respiratory signs and lethargy. Kitten #1 died on 07/02/2009. Kitten #2 died on 07/04/2009. Neither were evaluated by a veterinarian. Kitten #3 (2nd Subform III) started having unknown respiratory signs and lethargy on 07/05/2009 and was bathed with Softsoap. The signs were worsening at the time of the report. The mother cat was asymptomatic. The reporter was advised that the signs described are not expected with the exposure described. Incidental contact with product residue on the mother cat's coat would not be a significant source of exposure. A recommendation was made to have Kitten #3 evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the cause of the signs and to determine appropriate treatment. Multiple attempts at follow up were unsuccessful. No further information was obtained.
