1-18499481: A reporter (cat owner) called on 05/17/2009 to report the possible exposure of his cat to an herbicide containing the active ingredients MCPA Dimethylamine salt, Triclopyr Triethylamine salt, and Dimethylamine dicamba. According to the reporter, the diluted product was applied to the lawn on 05/12/2009. It is unknown whether the cat had access to the treated area while it was still wet. On 05/15/2009, the cat started having trouble standing on its hind limbs and refused to eat or drink. The cat was evaluated by a veterinarian and started on an unknown medication. The signs were persistent at the time of the report. The reporter was advised that the signs described are not expected with an accidental exposure to the diluted product. If the cat had walked through the treated area while wet and then licked its paws, it may have developed transient vomiting within a couple of hours of ingestion. Development of signs several days after potential product exposure would not be expected, nor would signs other than nausea or vomiting. A recommendation was made to continue working with the cat's veterinarian to determine the cause of the signs. On follow up, the reporter stated that the cat had been evaluated by the veterinarian 3 times and no diagnosis was made. The cat started to breathe heavily and died at home on 05/18/2009. No further information was obtained.
