1-18220848: A reporter called on 04/23/2009 to report the exposure of her dog to an herbicide containing the active ingredient corn meal gluten. According to the reporter, the product was applied to the lawn on 04/22/2009. One hour prior to the report, the dog was seen eating the product. The reporter immediately took the dog on a walk and he had diarrhea. She also saw some loose stool in the yard. The reporter was advised that the product has a low level of toxicity and a wide margin of safety. If ingested in large enough amounts, the product may result in minor gastrointestinal upset including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. A recommendation was made to provide fluids to prevent dehydration. The reporter was also advised that the dog should be evaluated by a veterinarian should his signs persist or worsen. On follow up, the reporter stated that she gave the dog some Pepto-Bismol but the diarrhea continued. The dog was still eating and drinking normally. The reporter had called the veterinarian and was planning to give the dog rice. The reporter said that she would take the dog to the veterinarian if his signs persisted. No further information was obtained.
