1-17943731: A reporter called on 03/28/2009 to report the exposure of a kitten to a flea and tick spray containing the active ingredient Tetrachlorvinphos. According to the reporter, the kitten had fleas so the reporter bathed the kitten in a non-company flea and tick shampoo on 03/21/2009. The kitten continued to scratch, so the reporter applied the product on 03/27/2009. He dried the kitten with a towel after he applied the product. The kitten did groom himself after the caller wiped him down with a towel. The kitten did not sleep at all the night the product was applied. He was not playful, had a runny nose and increased salivation at the time of the report. The reporter was advised that the product is not labeled for use in cats younger than 12 weeks of age. The reporter was advised to bathe the cat thoroughly with a non-medicated shampoo. A recommendation was made to rinse and repeat. The reporter was advised to limit his own contact with the product while bathing. A recommendation was made to offer the kitten some water to rinse his mouth. The reporter was advised that the kitten should be evaluated by a veterinarian if the signs do not resolve within 2 hours of bathing. On follow up on 03/29/2009, the reporter stated that he bathed the cat following the initial report. After the kitten was bathed, he ate, drank some water and took a nap. When the kitten woke up from his nap he was playful and not salivating. The kitten was doing well at the time of the follow up. No further information was obtained. NOTE: This product is not labelled for use in cats younger than 12 weeks of age.
