1-17058618: A reporter called on 12/09/2008 to report the exposure of a 6 week old puppy to a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredients Permethrin and Methoprene. According to the reporter, she applied the product to the puppy on 12/08/2008. Later in the day, the reporter noticed that the product is not labeled for use in puppies younger than 12 weeks of age. The reporter bathed the puppy with Dawn hand dish soap on 12/08/2008. On the day of the report, the reporter noticed that the puppy seemed lethargic and was concerned that the sign may be from the product. The reporter was advised that the product is not intended for use on puppies this age. The reporter was informed that bathing the dog in a hand dish soap was appropriate to remove the product from the puppy's coat and skin. The reporter was advised that lethargy may be due to many other causes. A recommendation was made to monitor the puppy and have it evaluated by a veterinarian should any other signs develop. On follow up on 12/10/2008, the reporter stated that she thinks the lethargy she called about initially was just normal puppy behavior. The puppy never developed any other signs and was doing well at the time of the follow up report. No further information was obtained.
