1-16382720: The reporter spoke with the registrant¿¿¿s health and safety phone center on 7/10/08 regarding the application of a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredient Methoprene to her cat 5 days previously. According to the reporter, she had a 4 year old cat who had fleas but who was also nursing kittens. The reporter¿¿¿s veterinarian had suggested using 1 drop of the product to help protect the kittens from the fleas. The reporter had applied the 1 drop on 7/5/08. The next day after product application the cat had become anorexic, lethargic, and had developed ¿¿¿burns¿¿¿ on her neck. The reporter had taken the cat to see a veterinarian, and the cat had been placed on a course of steroids, pain medications and antibiotics. By the time of the call, the cat had begun to improve and had started eating a little. The reporter had been bottle feeding the kittens and planned to let the kittens nurse once the mother was back to normal (per the advice of the attending veterinarian).
